Overview

Queensland is rightly referred to as the sunshine state. Most of the state benefits from between 250 - 300 days of sunshine a year and whether its because of the weather, (after all everything does seem better when its sunny!) the state is home to the most contented population of residents anywhere in Australia. Combining the wonders of the great ourdoors with modern living, the state really caters for all tastes and desires. To many the the ideal of the Australian dream, there really isn't much that Queensland cannot offer.

Climate

Queensland and Brisbane in particular have a humid sub tropical climate with hot dry summers combined with mild winters. The following information represents an average year in Brisbane:

Much of Queensland experiences a similar climate. Typically further north in areas such as Townsville and Cairns, the climate is more tropical with a wet and dry season.

Major Towns and Cities

Brisbane

Brisbane is the state capital and its modern skyline illustrates the continued success of the city. The population has continued to grow and the city is now home to 1.8 million residents with the population increasing annually by 2.2%. Located on the Gold Coast, the city has an unrivalled lifestyle, whilst at the same time offering increasingly diverse employment opportunities.

Cairns and Townsville

Cairns and Townsville are also popular destinations for migrants and travellers alike. There proximity to the Great Reef and the rain forests of Northern Queensland make them a nature lovers paridise. The population is significantly below that of Brisbane and both Cairns and Townsville should be considered towns rather than cities.

Great Barrier Reef

So big that it is visible from space, the Great Barrier Reef stretches over 1000 kilometers. Showcasing a huge variety of aquatic life as well as some of the richest coral formations in the world it is a diver and snorkellers paradise. For nature lovers and aquatics fans alike, the Great Barrier Reef will never lose its appeal.

Rain Forest

The rain forests of Northern Queensland are some of the densest and most pristine of those left Earth. Destinations such as Cape Tribulation offer the opportunity to experience rain forest at close quarters, whilst still benefitting from modern conveniences. For hikers, cyclists and nature lovers, the North of Queensland offers unparalleled options. 

Gold Coast

The Gold Coast is an incredible stretch of shoreline on the East coast of Australia, which epitomises the Australian way of life. With over 52 kilometres of golden beaches, theme parks and top class dining, it is a destination that many never want to leave after they have arrived! The climate is ideal for outdoor living with year round sunshine and plenty of attraction to keep those who like a slightly wilder time, more than entertained.

Employment Prospects

The economy in Queensland is vibrant at the moment and many of the positions avialable are based in the public and tourist sector. This means that opportunities are abundant in healthcare, hospitality and also the construction sector, which has seen unprecented levels of demand. If you have an occupation in any of these fields, there is a very good chance that employers in Queensland are looking for people just like you.
