
Marlborough is a region of New Zealand located in the northeast of the South Island. Marlborough is one of the biggest winemaking regions in New Zealand with about 65 wineries and 290 grape growers, and over 4,000 hectares planted in grapes mainly Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Riesling, Pinot Gris and Gewurztraminer.
Marlborough is one the countries sunniest and driest regions. There are a fantastic range of activities from swimming with the dolphins in the Marlborough Sounds to watching whales in Kaikoura.
Marlborough has some of the oldest archaeological sites in the country such as the Moa hunter sites on the boulder bank. Many other historic Maori pa sites can be found in different parts of the region, and there is a small but active local representation of various Maori tribes in the region.
