Working Holiday Maker (WHM)

Overview

The Working Holiday Maker visa was introduced by all the participating countries (please see the country list below) to give young people under 30 years of age the opportunity of gaining valuable work and life experience abroad. If you are between 17 and 30 years old, why not consider experiencing life and work in the UK by enjoying a working holiday for up to 2 years.

Eligibility

To qualify as a Working Holiday Maker visa you must meet the following eligibility criteria:

  • You are aged between 17-30 years old
  • You have never been issued with a Working Holiday Maker visa before. This visa is a once in a life time opportunity.
  • You want to come to the UK for an extended holiday for up to 2 years and take employment for a maximum of 1 year
  • You are a citizen of the countries participating in the Working Holidaymaker Scheme. Click here to check your eligibility.

 

Additional Criteria

In addition to the standard criteria to qualify, you will also need to satisfy the following circumstance based criteria:

  • You are single or married to a person who also qualifies for the Working Holiday Maker visa and you are planning to come to the UK together. Please note that if your husband/wife does not qualify, you will not be able to qualify yourself for a Working Holiday Maker visa.
  • Your child or children are not older than 3 years old at the time your visa will be granted and they will not celebrate their 5th Birthday in the UK on the Working Holiday Maker visa.
  • You do not intend to work as a professional sports person.
  • You do not intend to start your own business and employ staff. You may only be an employee and work for an employer on this visa.
  • You have enough money to support yourself for the first few months of arriving to the UK until you find employment for yourself. You must not and will not be eligible for what is called "recourse to public funds. Public funds constitute money or financial assistance from the UK government.
  • You have enough money to pay for your flights and support yourself inside the UK
  • You intend to leave the UK at the end of the Working Holiday Maker visa
